BurdaStyle posted another plus sized pattern this week: Elastic waist jeans.

Do you think they can hear me retching all the way in New York? I hope they can.

I give the f*ck up...

Hi Sarah,

Just wondering why you are upset about the pattern?

We are always happy about constructive criticism.

Best Wishes,
The BurdaStyle Team

Well, I figured you weren't actually interested in constructive criticism, as my lengthy e-mail to BurdaStyle regarding a previous plus sized pattern went without reply.

However, elastic waist jeans are probably the frumpiest, most insulting plus sized garment that exists. In a symbolic way, it says: "You are so socially unacceptable that you can't even have a proper waistband."

They are considered by many fashionable plus sized women to be a garment of embarrassment -- the sort of thing your mother ordered from an "old lady" catalog when you were in junior high and the local shops only carried jeans to size 12.

And lest you think old ladies actually appreciate them, my deceased grandmother (who wore a US size 18) never even wore them.

I don't know. I just feel it is symptomatic of BurdaStyle's inherent sizeism. Of the three plus sized patterns offered: One is a shapeless tent, one cannot be printed at home, and the last is a fashion horror.

I really don't mean to be rude. I shop regular Burda patterns (and I also subscribe to the plus sized pattern magazine), but BurdaStyle has really missed the mark for such a (no pun intended) sizable market.

Thanks for commenting, though -- I do appreciate it.
